A PCB legend is the text or graphics printed on a circuit board to provide information. It typically includes component labels, orientation indicators, reference designators, and other details. The legend is crucial for correct assembly, troubleshooting, and identifying components. It’s printed on top of the solder mask and should be clear, concise, and easy to read for efficient production and repair.

In the YouTube video below we explain best practices when create a PCB legend for your Printed Circuit Board.

With tips on how to place your legend around surface mount pads, text orientation and even the minimum size you should be outputting at. You can be sure that you’ll prevent future errors and help yourself and your PCB manufacturer. Preventing delays and keep your costs down can only be a good thing.
